Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino sits on Chuma Drive about 4 km from the centre of Gaborone, on landscaped grounds with a casino attached. At 199 rooms it is the largest property in this catalogue, and it is built for the traffic Gaborone actually gets: business travellers, conferences and people arriving in Botswana rather than people on safari.

How we checked this listing
Room counts and facilities come from the hotel’s own brand page and Minor Hotels’ property listing. We have not stayed here.

Gaborone is an arrival city, not a safari base
Almost nobody flies to Gaborone to go on safari. The parks are hundreds of kilometres north and west, and the traveller who ends up here is usually arriving from South Africa by road, connecting through on business, or starting a long drive north. Our Gaborone guide is honest about what the city is and is not good for.
That shapes what a hotel here needs to be. A pool, reliable Wi-Fi, a gym, somewhere to eat late and secure parking matter far more than a game-viewing deck. This property has all of them, which is why it is a reasonable default for a Gaborone night.
A note on the name
Avani Gaborone was formerly the Gaborone Sun, and a good deal of older material and local usage still calls it that. It is now part of Minor Hotels. Several impostor domains present themselves as the official site — the real one is linked below.
If you want a bush day rather than a city one, Mokolodi Nature Reserve is about half an hour south and is covered separately in this catalogue.
Who Avani Gaborone suits
- Business and conference travellers, which is most of Gaborone’s year-round hotel trade.
- Road arrivals from South Africa crossing at Tlokweng or Ramotswa and needing a first night.
- Families breaking a long drive north, for the pool and the space.
It suits you less if you want a small property, a bush setting, or somewhere within walking distance of much.
Book or compare
The availability button on this page opens Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino through our booking partner. We click-tested it on 30 August 2026 and it resolves to this property.
We publish no rate here. Prices move with season, occupancy and cancellation terms, and a figure copied once is a figure that goes stale.
Botswana Travel Guide may earn a commission when you book through selected links, at no additional cost to you. It does not change what we list or what we say about it.
What we publish, and what we do not
We publish no rates, no availability, no star ratings and no review scores of our own. Prices and room availability are shown by the hotel at the link below, not by us.
If anything here is out of date, tell us through our contact page and we will check it against the source and correct it.
