Accommodation in Maun
Riverside lodges, campsites and guesthouses along the Thamalakane, and the town hotels beside the airstrip almost every fly-in trip passes through.
Maun is where Botswana safaris are assembled. Charter flights leave Maun Airport for the Okavango camps, hire vehicles are collected and returned here, supplies are bought here, and most itineraries touch the town at least twice — once before the delta and once after. The road south-east runs to Nata and the A3; the road north leads toward Shakawe and the Panhandle; Moremi is reached out to the east. If Kasane is the next stop, the choice between the tar and the park route is set out in Maun to Kasane.
The accommodation splits between lodges along the Thamalakane river, a working set of hotels and guesthouses in and around town, and campsites used by self-drive parties. Very little of it is a destination in its own right, and that is fine: what most travellers need here is a reliable bed close to the airport for the night before an early flight.
Because Maun works as a logistics town, the practical questions are distance to the airport and whether a place can hold luggage or a vehicle while you are in the bush. Everything listed holds a current national tourism licence.
The Maun catalogue mixes guesthouses, hotels, bed and breakfasts, self-catering units and lodges, and some properties also carry a campsite alongside chalets, tents or self-catering units. If you are looking for a Maun campsite or a backpackers rather than a lodge, that stock is listed below rather than on a separate page.
