Discovery Bed and Breakfast is a small owner-run guesthouse in a garden plot off the Shorobe road, north-east of Maun and about twenty minutes from the centre of town. Nine units, a pool and a coffee shop — it is the smallest and quietest of the Maun properties in this catalogue, and consistently the best reviewed.

Facilities at Discovery Bed and Breakfast
A swimming pool, an on-site coffee shop and bar, laundry service, and free parking with electrical hookups — useful if you are arriving in a kitted vehicle. Wi-Fi is mainly in the café area rather than the rooms.
Who it suits
Couples and solo travellers who want a quiet, personally run place rather than a hotel, and self-drivers who need secure parking with power.
Location and access
Tar on the Shorobe road then a short sand access track into the plot, about 12 km from Maun International Airport. The GPS reference the guesthouse publishes is S 19°54.701’ / E 023°31.401’.
How we checked this listing
Unit counts, facilities and the GPS reference come from the guesthouse’s own website. We have not stayed here.
Small, and run by the people who own it
Nine units is small enough that the owners are the people you deal with, which in Maun is worth more than a list of facilities. It is the difference between an airport transfer that happens and one that was booked by someone who has gone off shift.
The trade is that there is no restaurant in the full sense, no room service and no activity fleet. Meals beyond breakfast and the coffee shop mean driving into town or to one of the larger riverside lodges. If you want everything on site, this is not the property.
The last stretch is sand
The Shorobe road is tar, but the access into the plot is a short sand track, and that is worth knowing if you have hired a sedan. It is not difficult in dry conditions and the guesthouse is used to guests arriving in ordinary cars, but a low-slung vehicle after rain is a different question.
This is a small preview of what Botswana asks of a vehicle more generally. Our 4×4 and vehicle requirements guide sets out where an ordinary car stops being enough.
Who Discovery Bed and Breakfast suits
- Couples and solo travellers who would rather have nine units than a hundred and forty.
- Self-drivers needing secure parking with an electrical hookup for a fridge.
- Travellers on an arrival night who want quiet and a short run to the airport in the morning.
It suits you less if you need a restaurant, reliable in-room Wi-Fi, or want to be walking distance from anything.
Book or compare
We have not been able to confirm a booking route for Discovery Bed and Breakfast specifically. Rather than send you to a property that is not this one, the availability button compares stays across Maun. It does not claim to open this property.
We publish no rate here. Prices move with season, occupancy and cancellation terms, and a figure copied once is a figure that goes stale.
Botswana Travel Guide may earn a commission when you book through selected links, at no additional cost to you. It does not change what we list or what we say about it.
What we publish, and what we do not
We publish no rates, no availability, no star ratings and no review scores of our own. Prices and room availability are shown by the booking partner at the link below, not by us.
If anything here is out of date, tell us through our contact page and we will check it against the source and correct it.
