Chobe Game Lodge is the only permanent lodge inside Chobe National Park. Everything else on the Chobe riverfront sits outside the boundary at Kasane or Kazungula and drives in through Sedudu Gate each morning. That single fact is the whole argument for staying here: you are already inside when the gate opens, and you are still inside when everyone else has to leave.

Botswana Tourism records 44 rooms and 96 beds; the lodge’s own material and specialist listings put the figure slightly higher and include four suites with plunge pools. The counts do not agree across sources, so treat the number as approximate and confirm with the lodge if it matters to you.
Facilities at Chobe Game Lodge
A swimming pool, spa and massage, a gym, a curio shop, and a riverside boardwalk the lodge puts at around 250 metres. Game drives and boat cruises run from the property. The lodge has used electric game-drive vehicles and solar-electric boats since 2014, and it runs an all-female guiding team.
Who it suits
Travellers who want the riverfront at the hours it is actually worth having, and photographers who want a silent boat.
Location and access
Roughly a 25 to 30 minute road transfer from Kasane Airport, normally in a lodge vehicle, running through Sedudu Gate into the park. Botswana Tourism records the lodge as 23 km west of Kasane. Self-driving to the lodge is not the usual arrangement.

Being inside the gate changes the day
Chobe’s riverfront is one of the densest concentrations of elephant in Africa in the dry season, and it is also one of the busiest stretches of road in any Botswana park. Between about nine in the morning and four in the afternoon the Kasane day-visitor traffic is on it.
Staying inside means your first drive starts before that traffic arrives and your last one continues after it has gone. If you have read our Chobe National Park guide and concluded the riverfront is worth doing properly, this is what doing it properly looks like.
Electric vehicles are not a gimmick here
An electric game-drive vehicle and a solar-electric boat do something specific on the Chobe: they let you sit close to elephant and buffalo at the water without engine noise. For photography and for the animals’ behaviour that is a real difference, not a marketing line. The lodge has run them since 2014, long enough that it is not an experiment.
It is worth saying that this is an expensive way to see Chobe, and that a day trip from Kasane will show you a great deal of the same river. What it will not show you is the river at six in the morning with nobody else on it.
Who Chobe Game Lodge suits
- Photographers, for the electric boats and vehicles and the early and late access.
- Travellers doing Chobe once and properly, rather than as a stop between the Delta and Victoria Falls.
- Anyone who wants the riverfront without the day-visitor traffic, which is the single thing money buys here.
It suits you less if you are self-driving, travelling on a budget, or want to walk to restaurants and shops in the evening.
