Cresta Mowana Safari Resort and Spa sits on the Chobe riverfront at Kasane. Mowana is the Setswana word for baobab, and the resort is built around one. It is the largest and most resort-like of the Kasane riverfront properties in this catalogue, which is either the reason to book it or the reason not to.

Who it suits

Travellers who want resort facilities on the Chobe, families needing a pool that is more than a plunge, and anyone who values a working booking engine.

Location and access

Tar the whole way on the Kasane riverfront, a short drive from Kasane International Airport. No 4×4 required.

How we checked this listing

Facilities and the booking route come from Cresta Hotels’ own property listing. We have not stayed here.

A resort on a river that rewards small boats

The Chobe is at its best in a small boat at four in the afternoon, close to the water and close to the elephant. Big resorts run big boats, which is comfortable and considerably less intimate. If photography is the point of your trip, the smaller riverfront properties and the operators in Kasane town will serve you better.

What a resort does well is everything around the game viewing: a pool for the middle of the day, several places to eat, a spa, and enough capacity that a family is not competing for the last table. Our Chobe National Park guide sets out what the river offers and when.

The name to search for

This property opened as Mowana Safari Lodge and a great deal of the web — including aggregator sites that rank well — still lists it under the old name. It is now Cresta Mowana Safari Resort and Spa. If you are comparing reviews, you will find them split across both names.

Who Cresta Mowana suits

  • Families, for the pool, the space and the range of places to eat.
  • Travellers who want a predictable standard and a booking engine that works.
  • Conference and group travel, which Kasane gets more of than most people assume.

It suits you less if you want a small camp, a private boat, or the quiet of the Kazungula end of the riverfront.

We publish no rate here. Prices move with season, occupancy and cancellation terms, and a figure copied once is a figure that goes stale.
