Where Jackalberry Chobe sits
Jackalberry Chobe stands on the banks of the Chobe River at Kasane, in the far north-east of Botswana. It is conveniently placed for Chobe National Park, Kasane Airport and the town centre, which makes it unusually easy to reach for a tented camp on the river.
The tents
There are sixteen tents in total, arranged among natural bush. They are split into river view, partial view and bush view, so the outlook varies by tent and is worth specifying when booking.
Inside a tent
Each tent is generously sized, with a private balcony, a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed, and an interleading en-suite bathroom containing both a shower and a free-standing bath. This is a canvas camp finished to hotel standards rather than a rustic one.
Fully inclusive
The camp runs on a fully inclusive basis, covering accommodation, meals and activities. For a short Chobe stay that removes most of the planning: you arrive and the programme is already set.
Game drives in Chobe
Game drives run into Chobe National Park in the camp’s own vehicles. Chobe holds one of the largest elephant populations in Africa, and the riverfront section of the park is the most reliable game viewing in Botswana during the dry season.
Boat cruises on the Chobe
Boat cruises run on the river in the camp’s own boats. The Chobe is best seen from the water in the late afternoon, when elephant cross to the islands and buffalo come down to drink; it is also the better platform for photography and birding.
The operator
The camp is run by Thebe River Safaris, a long-established Kasane operator that also runs its own riverside property in town. The activity fleet and guiding come from that operation.
Getting there
Kasane Airport is a short transfer away, with scheduled flights connecting to Maun and Johannesburg, and the Zimbabwean and Zambian approaches to Victoria Falls are both close. The camp is reachable on tar, unlike most Botswana safari camps.
Who it suits
Travellers who want a proper tented safari camp on the Chobe River without a long charter flight or a rough transfer, couples wanting a river-view tent with a bath, and anyone combining Chobe with Victoria Falls.
