Lobatse, and why it is on this site
Lobatse sits south-west of Gaborone on the road to the Pioneer Gate border post at Ramatlabama, and it is the last Botswana town of any size before South Africa on that route. It is a legal and abattoir town rather than a tourist one.
For travellers it works as a quieter alternative to Gaborone and as a border-run overnight. The accommodation is guesthouses and small lodges on residential plots, and the hills around the town are more attractive than the town itself.
Who it suits
- Travellers crossing at Pioneer Gate who want a night on the Botswana side.
- Anyone who wants a game farm within an hour of Gaborone.
- Families needing a pool and a restaurant on the southern route.
