Crocodile Camp sits on the Thamalakane at Matlapana, on the Shorobe road roughly 12 km north-east of Maun. It runs a lodge and a large campsite on the same riverfront plot, which makes it one of the few Maun addresses that works equally for a fly-in couple and an overland truck.

Thirty-one rooms across Standard Deluxe, Executive, Superior and Presidential grades, air-conditioned with in-room safes. The campsite alongside has capacity the camp puts at around a hundred campers.
Facilities at Crocodile Camp
A swimming pool, a restaurant and riverside bar, the Marulana Spa, and conference facilities. Moremi game drives, Thamalakane boat cruises, mokoro trips and village tours are booked on site.

Mixed parties and self-drivers who want a riverfront pitch with a bar, a pool and a spa attached rather than a bare campsite.

Tar on the Shorobe road then a short access road, about 10 km from Maun International Airport. No 4×4 required.

The Shorobe road, and what 12 km buys you
North-east of Maun the Shorobe road runs towards Moremi, and the riverside properties string out along it. Crocodile Camp is one of the further ones, which means quieter nights and a longer drive for supplies. Twelve kilometres is about twenty minutes with the town traffic, and it is the same road you will leave on if you are heading for Khwai or North Gate.
That matters for a self-drive start. Leaving from here you are already pointed the right way, and the first stretch of the Moremi run is behind you before you have finished your coffee. Our self-drive guide covers what that route asks of a vehicle.
A spa on a campsite is less odd than it sounds
Maun’s camping trade is not only overlanders. A great many people arrive off a fortnight in the bush with their own equipment, wanting a hot shower, a cooked meal and somewhere to do laundry before they fly. A property that runs a hundred-camper site and a spa on the same plot is reading that market correctly rather than confusing itself.
What it does mean is that this is a busy place in season. If you want silence on the river, the smaller properties do it better.
Who Crocodile Camp suits
- Self-drivers starting or finishing a Moremi or Khwai run, already on the right road.
- Overland groups, which the campsite is genuinely sized for.
- Travellers coming out of the bush who want a pool, a spa and a proper meal before flying home.
It suits you less if you want a small, quiet riverside property or need to be near the banks and the shops.
