Mma Dinare — “Mother Buffalo” in Setswana — sits along the Gomoti River in the Dinare Private Reserve, a 27,000-hectare community concession bordering Moremi. The concession is run in partnership with the village of Sankuyo, and the camp employs more than sixty people from it. That is not decoration; it is the reason the land is photographic rather than hunted.

Who it suits

Travellers who want concession privileges — night drives, off-road tracking — and who care where the money goes. It is an easy first Delta camp because of the short flight.

Location and access

Santawani airstrip, about a 45-minute drive from camp; roughly twenty minutes flying from Maun or an hour and a half from Kasane. Road transfers and self-drive access are possible.

How we checked this listing

Suite counts, concession size and number, the Sankuyo partnership, staff numbers and flight times come from the Kwando Safaris operator page for this camp. We have not stayed here.

What a community concession actually changes

NG34 was a hunting area. The community that holds the lease chose photographic tourism instead, and the camp is the revenue that makes that choice hold. Whether or not that matters to you ethically, it matters practically: the animals here have been photographed rather than shot at for years, which shows in how close the vehicles can get.

The Gomoti is a seasonal river, and that is the catch

The Gomoti floods and recedes. In a strong flood year the camp has water in front of it and mokoro on the programme; in a weak one it is a dry floodplain and the emphasis moves entirely to drives. Ask which you are getting before you book if water activity is the point of your trip.

Booking this property

Mma Dinare sells through the operator and through safari agents rather than as a nightly-rate hotel room.

Book or compare

We have not been able to confirm a property-level booking route for Mma Dinare. Rather than send you to a property that is not this one, the availability button compares stays across the Okavango Delta. It does not claim to open this property.

We publish no rate here. Prices move with season, occupancy and cancellation terms, and a figure copied once is a figure that goes stale.

Botswana Travel Guide may earn a commission when you book through selected links, at no additional cost to you. It does not change what we list or what we say about it.

What we publish, and what we do not

We publish no nightly rate, no live availability, no star rating and no review score of our own. Those move with season and occupancy, and a figure copied once is a figure that goes stale. What we publish is what the property is, where it sits, who it suits and how you reach it.
