Where Qorokwe sits
Qorokwe lies in the south-eastern Okavango Delta on its own 26,000-hectare private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The country here is a mix of floodplain, palm island and open grassland, and it is one of the more predator-dense corners of the Delta.
The suites
There are eight tented suites with indoor showers, plus a family unit with its own splash pool, taking around sixteen guests. The camp is contemporary in design rather than traditional safari-canvas, and it sits low against the lagoon.
Fully solar-powered
Qorokwe runs entirely on solar. That is not merely a sustainability claim: a camp that generates all of its own power without a generator is markedly quieter, and in a place where you are listening for lion at night the difference is real.
The main area
Dining and lounge sit on a raised deck with a bar, and there is an infinity pool, wifi and a shop selling locally made goods. A pizza oven handles more relaxed meals — a small thing, but it signals a camp that is not rigidly formal.
Game drives, day and night
Game drives run day and night. Night drives are possible because this is a private concession; Moremi next door closes at sunset. The concession carries lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog, and the open grasslands make cheetah viewing more likely here than in much of the Delta.
Mokoro excursions
Mokoro trips run on the shallow water. Poled from the stern and moving in silence at reed height, the mokoro is the way to see the Delta’s small things — frogs, water lilies, sitatunga tracks — that a vehicle passes at speed.
Boat safaris and the Gomoti Channel
Motorboat safaris and excursions onto the Gomoti Channel are offered, water levels permitting. The Gomoti is one of the Delta’s main south-eastern arteries and holds hippo, crocodile and heavy birdlife.
Birding
Birding is strong across the concession, with floodplain, grassland and woodland species all within a short drive, and the water excursions add a further set.
Getting there
Access is by Wilderness Air charter from Maun, about 30 minutes to the camp’s own airstrip.
Who it suits and when
Qorokwe suits travellers who want serious predator viewing with night drives and a water component, in a camp that is modern rather than colonial in feel. It operates year-round: the dry months from June to October concentrate game, while the green season brings birds, newborn animals and dramatic light.
