Jwaneng, and why it is on this site
Jwaneng exists because of the diamond mine, and it sits on the Trans-Kalahari Highway between Gaborone and Kang. It is a company town with good roads, a hospital and more accommodation than a place its size would otherwise have.
For travellers it is the first or last comfortable stop on the southern Trans-Kalahari run, and its guesthouses are priced for contractors rather than tourists. That is a good thing if you are driving to Namibia and want a bed before the long empty stretch.
Who it suits
- Trans-Kalahari drivers wanting a hotel room at guesthouse money.
- Business visitors to the Jwaneng mine.
- Single-night stops on the southern route.
