Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu stands on the bank of the Limpopo River, with lawns running down to the water and sandstone outcrops behind. Eight elevated tented suites sit under draped canvas over timber frames, and the lodge grows a good deal of what it serves in its own vegetable garden.

Eight luxury tented suites, elevated and airy, with wrap-around decks. Each has an island bed, a lounge area, a freestanding bath, a large shower, a double-basin vanity and a separate WC.

Who it suits
Couples, and travellers who want to walk from their room rather than always ride. The in-grounds hide and trail make it unusually good for a slow day in camp.

By road via the Pont Drift border with South Africa, or by air into the reserve.
A walking trail inside the fence is more useful than it sounds
Most safari lodges will not let you walk anywhere unaccompanied. A property with its own secured trail and hide gives you something to do at the hours when the vehicles are parked — the middle of the day, or a morning you decide to skip. On a four-night stay that is the difference between rest and boredom.
The Limpopo is a seasonal river and that shapes the view
For much of the year the Limpopo here is sand with pools rather than a flowing river, which is normal and is when the game viewing along it is best. After good rain upstream it can run hard and briefly cut the Pont Drift crossing. Check the crossing before you drive rather than assuming.
