Camp Moremi sits at Xakanaxa Lagoon inside Moremi Game Reserve, which is rarer than it sounds. Most Delta camps are on private concessions outside the reserve boundary. Being inside it means the game drives start where the game already is, and because Xakanaxa is on permanent water, the same day can hold a drive and a boat.

Tents at Camp Moremi

Eleven luxury tents and one family tent with two en-suite bedrooms, taking a maximum of 24 guests, plus a separate pilot and guide tent. Tents stand on raised wooden decks with en-suite bathrooms, double vanities, fans rather than air conditioning, 220V power, safes and tea and coffee facilities. The camp was completely rebuilt in 2018.

Facilities at Camp Moremi

A swimming pool on its own deck, an open-air fire deck reached by raised boardwalk, indoor and outdoor dining, a self-service bar built around a large termite mound and an ebony tree, a curio shop, a library and laundry.

Who it suits

Travellers who want Moremi itself rather than a concession next to it, and anyone who wants both game drives and boating from one camp without moving. Children are accepted from six years.

Location and access

Fly-in by light aircraft from Maun to the Xakanaxa airstrip, then a short transfer. Xakanaxa is reachable by 4×4 in the dry season, but self-drivers should treat that as a serious route, not a shortcut.

Why being inside the reserve changes the day

A camp on a private concession can drive off-road and at night, which a reserve camp cannot. What a reserve camp gets in exchange is position. Xakanaxa is one of the richest corners of Moremi, and Camp Moremi is already in it when the gate opens. If your priority is sheer volume of general game rather than off-road predator following, that trade is usually worth making.

The boat is not a novelty here

Plenty of Delta camps offer a boat when the flood allows. At Xakanaxa the lagoon and its channels hold water all year, so boating is a standing part of the programme rather than a seasonal extra. That matters most between roughly September and December, when the land is dry and hot and the water is where everything goes.
