Accommodation in Serowe
Serowe is the Bangwato capital and one of the largest villages in southern Africa, spread below the Serowe hill about forty-five kilometres west of Palapye. Most visitors are here for Khama Rhino Sanctuary twenty-five kilometres north, or the Khama III Memorial Museum. The accommodation is scattered through the wards rather than concentrated, and it is almost all guesthouses and small hotels.
Serowe is one of the largest villages in Botswana and the seat of the Khama family, and it is the practical base for Khama Rhino Sanctuary a short drive to the north. The Khama III Memorial Museum is in the village itself. Serowe sits off the A1 on the spur from Palapye, far enough that reaching it is a decision rather than a roadside stop.
Accommodation here serves three different groups at once: visitors heading for the sanctuary, domestic and official travel into a large administrative village, and families visiting. The result is a register dominated by guesthouses and bed and breakfasts spread across the wards rather than concentrated in a centre, with a small number of larger establishments.
If the sanctuary is the reason you are coming, build the drive in properly — the spur from the A1 is a genuine detour, and the sanctuary itself deserves more than a rushed hour. Every property listed holds a current national tourism licence.
