A heronry is a seasonal spectacle worth timing
Breeding heronries in the Delta fill between roughly August and November, when thousands of storks, herons, egrets and ibis nest in one stand of trees. Arriving in the right weeks turns a good birding camp into an exceptional one. Ask the camp what the colony is doing before you fix dates.
Pel’s fishing owl is a genuine target, not a slogan
Pel’s is one of Africa’s most sought-after birds and most people never see one. Camps on permanent water with mature riverine forest are where it is realistically findable, and Kanana has a long-standing record. If it is on your list, say so on arrival — guides plan the boat route around it.
