Nxamaseri Island Lodge sits on a private island in the Nxamaseri Channel, in the Okavango Panhandle rather than the fan of the Delta most visitors picture. It is among the oldest camps in the Okavango, dating to the early 1980s, and it is one of the few genuine water lodges you can reach by road.

Who it suits
Anglers, birders and travellers who want the Okavango without a light-aircraft transfer. It also suits anyone building a trip around Tsodilo Hills. Children are accepted from six years.
Location and access
Road access, which is unusual for an Okavango island lodge, with the final approach by boat. Tsodilo Hills is roughly an hour away.
The Panhandle is a different river
Above the fault line where the Okavango spreads out, the river is still a river: deep, fast and channelled between papyrus walls. That is why the fishing here is real fishing rather than a camp diversion, and why the birding leans towards specials of the papyrus rather than the floodplain species further south.
Tsodilo Hills is the reason to add a night
Tsodilo carries one of the densest concentrations of rock art anywhere in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a long way from anywhere except here. If you are coming this far north-west, treat Nxamaseri as the base that makes Tsodilo practical rather than a detour.
