Sango Safari Camp was built on the outskirts of Khwai village, on the edge of the Okavango Delta where the Khwai River holds water all year. That combination — permanent water and a community village next door — gives it both consistent game and a genuine cultural component that most concession camps cannot offer.

Who it suits

Travellers who want Khwai without flagship-camp pricing, and anyone who values a real encounter with the community rather than a staged one.

Location and access

Khwai is reachable by light aircraft to the local airstrips and by 4×4 for properly equipped self-drivers.

Khwai village is part of the story, not scenery

Khwai is a settlement of people who were moved off land that became Moremi, and who now hold the concession around it. Camps here employ from the village and pay into it. A cultural visit at Khwai is therefore a different proposition from one arranged as an excursion — you are already in the community, not visiting it.

Year-round water is the practical draw

A great deal of the Delta is seasonal floodplain. The Khwai River is not: it holds water through the dry months, which is why the game concentrates along it from roughly July onward and why a camp on this stretch delivers consistently when drier areas go quiet.
