Shinde stands on a palm island at the edge of Shinde Lagoon in the northern Delta, in its own private concession. It was rebuilt in 2020. The concession is unusual in holding permanent water year-round alongside dry ground you can drive, which means the camp does not have to choose between boats and game drives.

Who it suits
Travellers who want both water and land from one camp without moving, and anyone hoping for sitatunga — the shy swamp antelope the operator flags here.
Location and access
Fly-in by light aircraft. Private concession status permits guided walks, mokoro and night drives.
Sitatunga are the reason specialists come here
Sitatunga are swamp-adapted antelope with splayed hooves that live in papyrus and are almost never seen from a vehicle. Camps on permanent water with boat access are effectively the only places you can look for them. If you have already ticked the big cats, this is the kind of species that makes a fourth Botswana trip worthwhile.
A 2020 rebuild is worth knowing about
Delta camps are dismantled and rebuilt more often than guests realise — concession leases require it, and canvas does not last. A recent rebuild means current plumbing, current solar and tents that have not spent ten seasons in the sun. It is an unglamorous thing to check and it makes a real difference to a stay.
