Accommodation in Nata

Nata is a junction, and that is its entire purpose on a travel map. The A3 arrives from Francistown; from Nata one road continues north to Kasane and Chobe, and another turns west for Gweta and Maun. Almost everyone who stops here is breaking one of those two runs.

It is also the access point for the northern Makgadikgadi. The Nata Bird Sanctuary sits on the edge of Sua Pan just south of the village, and the pans themselves are the reason some travellers choose to stay rather than pass through.

The register here is short and practical: a handful of lodges and campsites on the approaches, plus small guesthouses in the village. Fuel and stores are worth taking on at Nata, because the next reliable stop in any direction is a long way off. Every property below is licensed with Botswana Tourism, and each page publishes what the register records rather than a facilities list we cannot verify.

The numbers that decide the stop: Francistown to Nata is about 180 km on the A3, Nata to Kasane about 300 km on the A33, and Nata to Maun about 300 km further west on the A3. If you reach Nata after mid-afternoon, stopping here is almost always the right call.

Stock across Makgadikgadi and Nata splits between the road and the pans: guesthouses, hotels and lodges along the road, and camps and safari lodges out on the pans, with campsites attached to several properties.
