Where Little Sable sits

Little Sable stands in the heart of the Khwai Private Reserve, on the northern edge of the Moremi ecosystem. Khwai is one of the strongest game areas in northern Botswana, and the reserve is private, so it is not bound by the national park’s rules on night drives and off-road driving.

An eight-room camp

There are eight rooms. Little Sable is the smaller sister camp to Sable Alley on the same reserve, and it is deliberately positioned as the more intimate and more relaxed of the pair.

The main area

The camp has a main area with a lounge and bar, outside dining, and a pool. The atmosphere is unfussy — this is a camp built around being comfortable rather than grand.

The tents

Guest tents look out over the surrounding grassland, with en-suite bathrooms. The setting is shimmering open grassland rather than dense bush, which makes for long views from camp.

Game drives

Classic game drives run on the reserve. Khwai carries elephant in numbers, along with lion, leopard and one of Botswana’s better wild dog populations.

Mokoro trips

Mokoro excursions run from camp. The mokoro is the Delta’s own dugout, poled from the stern through shallow channels, and it is the quietest way to move through the reeds.

Boat trips

Boat trips are also offered, water permitting. Between the vehicle, the mokoro and the boat, the camp can run a different activity every day of a stay rather than repeating the same drive.

Value

The operator positions Little Sable explicitly on value: a full Delta-edge experience at a lower rate than its sister camps. For travellers who want Khwai’s game without the top-tier price, it is one of the better-judged options on the reserve.

Community and conservation

The Khwai Private Reserve is a joint venture with Khwai Village, so revenue from a stay flows back to the community that lives alongside the wildlife.

When to visit

The camp is open year-round. The dry months from May to October concentrate game on the remaining water; the green season brings migrant birds, newborn animals and a much quieter reserve.
