Where Shokomoka sits
Shokomoka Adventure Hotel stands on the Gomoti River at the eastern end of the Okavango Delta, very close to the Moremi Game Reserve. The Gomoti is one of the Delta’s south-eastern channels, and the position puts the camp within reach of Moremi’s game without being inside the reserve.
The camp
Despite the name, this is a bush lodge rather than a hotel. There are fifteen spacious en-suite tents taking a maximum of thirty guests, and the operator states the camp takes only small groups.
Bush feel, low impact
The camp is described as having a real bush feeling and low impact on nature, while being comfortable and carefully decorated. It sits between the rustic and the polished rather than at either extreme.
Solar power
The lodge is solar powered, with a charging station in every tent. There is no air conditioning and no wifi, both stated plainly by the operator and both worth knowing before booking.
The restaurant
There is a restaurant on site, so this is a catered camp rather than self-catering.
The swimming pool
A swimming pool covers the hot middle of the day between the morning and afternoon activities.
Game drives
The lodge runs its own game drive vehicles. Being close to Moremi, drives reach one of the richest wildlife areas in Botswana, holding elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog and large antelope numbers.
The Gomoti
The Gomoti channel supports a different set of species from the dry interior, and the eastern Delta’s mix of floodplain and woodland within a short radius makes for varied game viewing and strong birding.
Who it suits
Small groups, self-drive travellers who want a catered camp near Moremi rather than inside it, and anyone content without air conditioning or wifi in exchange for a genuine bush setting on the Gomoti.
