Kashete Campsite is on the eastern bank of the Okavango Panhandle near Shakawe. Camping is the cheapest way to spend time on this stretch of river, and the eastern bank is where most of the pitches are: you need to be self-sufficient, and a boat or a booked transfer if you want to be out on the water. The drive in is from Maun via Gumare and Sepopa, or south from the Mohembo border.

Location and access
At Eastern Panhandle, Shakawe, in Shakawe. The national register records the ward but not a street address, and we do not invent one.
Small properties, and what they trade
Maun has a long tail of small owner-run guesthouses that sit between the big riverside lodges and the campsites. They are usually quieter and often better value, and they almost never have a restaurant, a pool of any size, or an activity desk.
A good number of them appear only on the national tourism register, with no website and no booking channel. That is not a sign they are not real; it is a sign they serve people who ring ahead.
